Why do we fast and pray?

Fasting and praying is an important spiritual discipline that is taught in the Bible. We see Moses, Daniel, Ezra, David, and several other men of God who prayed with fasting.  Jesus Himself fasted and prayed in preparation for His great ministry on earth. When we fast and pray, we humble ourself before God and tell Him that we are ready and available to be shaped according to His will, receive power and direction to be used by Him. Know that God in His Word promises to hear us and respond to our prayers.
I encourage you to read the link below as a preparation for fasting,

I pray that this will not just be another fasting prayer, but a season of prayer that will shake the heavens and bring prosperity and revival in your life, family, city and country where ever you live.

ASK BIG

Ask for big things from God. Ask for your city, ask for a nation, ask for thousands of souls. Be fervent, be tenacious, be persistent, full of faith when you pray.

Remember you are approaching the Almighty God. Think of a major project, if a project entails millions of dollars of investment it will require a very influential and powerful person’s approval. Similarly, you are not coming to some ordinary person, you are coming to the Almighty God, so ask unto Him boldly in faith in Jesus’ Name with the right heart.
The bible says, ‘Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us’. Eph 3:20

ASK FOR REVIVAL

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. James 5:17, 18

Treasure the time you go to pray, be sure to take your Bible, a journal (can be any book) to take notes on revelations you receive from God as you meditate His Word, and to record anything God speaks to you.You can also use this journal to record significant dreams and visions you receive, and ask God to explain what He is trying to convey during your time of prayer.

SHOUT FROM THE ROOF TOPS

When you receive a revelation do not keep it to yourself. Share your revelation! What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roof Matt 10:27
Post it on Facebook, WhatsApp, and God might have you use that in your daily interactions with your friends or colleagues. Be ready for a revival, expect revival!!!

Charles Finney on Revival

There can be no revival when Mr. Amen and Mr. Wet-Eyes are not found in the audience. Revival comes from heaven when heroic souls enter the conflict determined to win or die-or if need be, to win and die! The kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

A revival is nothing else than a new beginning of obedience to God. When the church finds its members falling into gross and scandalous sins, then it is time for the church to awake and cry to God for a Revival of Religion.

When there are dissensions, and jealousies, and evil speakings among professors of religion, then there is great need of a revival. These things show that Christians have got far from God, and it is time to think earnestly of a revival.

Andrew Murray on Revival

A true revival means nothing less than a revolution, casting out the spirit of worldliness and selfishness, and making God and His love triumph in the heart and life.

The coming revival must begin with a great revival of prayer. It is in the closet, with the door shut, that the sound of abundance of rain will first be heard. An increase of secret prayer with ministers will be the sure harbinger of blessing.

There is need of a great revival of spiritual life, of truly fervent devotion to our Lord Jesus, of entire consecration to His service. It is only in a church in which this spirit of revival has at least begun, that there is any hope of radical change in the relation of the majority of our Christian people to mission work.

Quotes from Leonard Ravenhill

No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.

A man may study because his brain is hungry for knowledge, even Bible knowledge. But he prays because his soul is hungry for God. How can you pull down strongholds of Satan if you don’t even have the strength to turn off your TV?

The Church right now has more fashion than passion, is more pathetic than prophetic, is more superficial than supernatural.
